Lindsay Robertson & Ansel Adams | Caledonia to California Exhibition

The joint exhibition presented 150 iconic prints by Ansel Adams, and 50 silver gelatin prints by Lindsay.
Many of Lindsay's images were mural prints printed up to 8' x 4'. The theme for the exhibition was ' Caledonia to California' which celebrated the journey of John Muir from his homeland in Scotland to America.
The exhibition was inspired by the fact that Ansel Adams became a director of the Sierra Club (the worlds first environmental club) which John Muir had founded some years earlier.
This opportunity followed on from an earlier project Lindsay had engaged in, which was photographing the landscape in the footsteps of John Muir in Scotland and America. During a meeting with the director of the Eastman House whilst Lindsay's was resident artist at the Hermitage Artist Retreat, the connection was realised between Adams and Muir. The images I had unwittingly captured brought the two legends together. I was then offered the opportunity to take the Eastman House's collection of Adam's images back to Scotland, thereby creating the 'Caledonia to California' exhibition.
